Book Aid International Donates a Large Collection of Books to University of Abuja, Nigeria.

Book Aid International, a leading UK charity book donor organization has made a generous donation of 1039 books to University of Abuja. The donated books are brand new from UK publishers comprising basic and advanced textbooks on the various disciplines of study in the University in the areas of medicine, sciences, art, social sciences. Communication, literature and others.  It also includes books for leisure readings. The books were well selected and will provide essential knowledge to support education and research activities in the University.

An Unveiling ceremony for the books was organized by the University Library to publicize the donation and sensitize the university community of the receipt of the knowledge resources. The Vice Chancellor University of Abuja Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi performed the unveiling of the books. The University Librarian Prof. Ebele N. Anyaoku presented the books to the Vice Chancellor Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi for the unveiling. 

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi in her speech expressed immense gratitude and joy for the opportunity to unveil the generous donation by Book Aid International of valuable additions to the university library. The Vice Chancellor stated that the University of Abuja is committed to fostering a culture of reading, research, and innovation. This contribution aligns perfectly with this vision of advancing excellence, innovation, and inclusivity in education. She expressed deep appreciation to Book Aid International for recognizing the importance of investing in the intellectual growth of the University community.  She noted that books are not just repositories of knowledge; they are windows to the world, tools for transformation, and the foundation of lifelong learning. The generous donation will significantly enrich the University academic resources, empower the students, and support staff in their pursuit of excellence. She urged students and staff to make the most of these resources, ensuring they serve as a catalyst for groundbreaking ideas and transformative scholarship.

Welcoming the Vice Chancellor and the University community, the University Librarian Prof.  Ebele N. Anyaoku expressed heartfelt gratitude to Book Aid International for the magnanimous donation that have contributed to enriching the information resources collections at University of Abuja Library. She stated that the Book Aid International vision for a world where everyone has access to books that enrich, improve and change their lives will certainly be accomplished in University of Abuja through the donations. She announced that Book Aid International offered direct partnership to the University and the partnership agreement has been successfully signed by both organizations. The book donation is the direct benefit of the partnership. In addition, the University Library was selected by the organization as a distribution point in Abuja for the distributing of donations to other libraries in the region. The University Librarian thanked the Book Aid International management team:  Alison Tweed, Chief Executive, Book Aid International who graciously paid working visits to the University of Abuja Library to address issues pertaining to the partnership and donation, others are Ms Giorgia Cerruti, Partnerships Manager, Darcy Gresley Partnerships and Operations Officer and Dr. Victoria Okojie. She stated that they have been instrumental in enabling the valuable donation.

In attendance were principal officers, council members of the University including the University Bursar, Mrs. Shiva Rae Koundun, the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof. Titus Ibekwe, The Deans of faculties, Heads of Departments, lecturers, students and other members of the University community. Together with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi and The University Librarian Prof. Ebele Anyaoku, the attendees inspected the books which were displayed in subject categories.

University of Abuja Governing Council visits the University Library

International Day of the Girl Child

Today 11th of October has been marked by the United Nations as International Day for the girl child. The day was marked in 2012, and it aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

This year’s International Day of the Girl (IDG) on October 11 marks the beginning of a year-long effort to spur global attention and action to the challenges and opportunities girls face before, during, and after crises, according to the UN.

The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library (TEEAL)



This is to inform the entire University Community that the Library has secured a grant from the Mann Library, Cornell University, USA, for the installation of The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library (TEEAL) in the University of Abuja Library. TEEAL is an offline full-text and searchable database of articles from more than 350 high-quality research journals in agriculture and the related sciences from 1993 – 2014.
The TEEAL was already delivered to the Library and has been installed. Also, a training on how to use the TEEAL and other electronic resources is coming in the first week of November. 
Once more, The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library (TEEAL) is a digital library for excellence in agricultural research and education.
It contains current agricultural research with access to hundreds of essential agricultural journals without internet connection.
Full-text articles can be downloaded, saved or printed in the following subject areas:

WEST AND CENTRAL AFRICAN RESEARCH AND EDUCATION NETWORK

The University Librarian and some library staff attended the WACREN workshop at NUC on Wednesday 5th October 2016.
The workshop was aimed at reducing the cost of access to databases through a consortium among the Nigerian  Universities.

Training of University of Abuja Library Staff

 Today, our resource person - Helen Nneka Okpala , a Librarian at University of Nigeria Nsukka, is taking the library staff on how to use social media like Facebook, Twitter, Blogs to reach out to our library patrons. More to that, the library staff are being taught how to make use of reference management systems to create researcher profiles and collaborate in addition to reference management.
